Golf’s History

Hello, I am going to be talking about golf,I don’t play a lot but was always interested in it. Like why they shouted “FORRRRRR”and is it four, or for. Now I will explain a few things

Now four, fore (from what i looked up) has 2 origins. 1 stating that when a golfer hit a ball he would then yell “Fore-caddy” (later shortened to Fore) was a signal for the caddy to watch where the ball lands.
the 2nd one is to say when a golfer hits a ball he yells “Fore” to signal anyone near to watch out

Golf is said to be created in Scotland. Though there has been evidence that it was encouraged by stick and ball games in France, Germany and the Low Countries. When the game was in its early years it wasn’t played with iron clubs and golf balls, they started with wood sticks and pebbles. The golfers soon tired of hitting pebbles so they tried something new.
The earliest man-made golf balls included thin leather bags stuffed with feathers (they did not fly very far).
Later around 1848 the gutta-percha ball was invented by Reverend Adam Paterson.
The next ball to be invented was made by Coburn Haskell it was the first one-piece rubber cored, when professionally hit these balls reached distances approaching 430 yards.
Now the next ball is very close to modern day golf balls, it was a ball just like the modern golf ball, but without the dimples on it.
In 1905 we get to the modern golf ball the great man who invented the current ball was William Taylor

Now to the golf clubs, the first golfclub (looking almost like modern clubs
club was a full wooden stick. It started as wood, then to hikori, steal, then graphite, now there are plenty of other golf clubs with other materials, but i’m listing the common ones. The not so common ones I have seen had materials in them such as gold, titanium, small diamonds, small rubies and many others.
the looks stayed pretty much the same through the ages. (titanium isn’t really uncommon its just not as common as graphite iron etc…)

The word “tee” as it relates to the game of golf originated as the name for the area where a golfer played. In 1889, the first documented portable golf tee was patented by Scottish golfers William Bloxsom and Arthur Douglas. This golf tee was made from rubber and had three vertical rubber prongs that held the ball in place. However, it lay on the ground and did not piece (or pegged) the ground like modern golf tees
In 1892 a rubber tee with a metal spike and did pierce the ground. In 1897 the (almost) modern tee was invented it had a cup shaped top to better hold the golf ball.
During the 1880s, golf bags first came into use. “The beast of burden” is an old nickname for the caddie who carried golfers’ equipment for them. The first powered golf car appeared around 1962 and was invented by Merlin L. Halvorson. it is not certain, but historians believe that Mary, Queen of Scots, came up with the name “caddie” in the late 16th century. Mary grew up in France where military cadets carried golf clubs for royalty. It is possible that Mary brought the custom to Scotland, where the term evolved into the word “caddie.”

Traditional caddieing involves both the golfer and the caddie walking the course. The caddie is in charge of carrying the player’s bag and both the caddie and the golfer walk at the same pace. This is the most common method used in golf clubs and is the only method allowed in the PGA (Professional Golf Association) and LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association).
Fore-caddieing is a type of caddieing where the caddie is always ahead of the golfer, marking their shots where they land. The caddie will start out a hole by running to the landing spot of their golfer’s tee shot. The job of the caddie is to mark the ball with a towel, stick, etc.so that the golfer does not have to waste time searching for it. If the hole is long and requires multiple shots before the golfer can reach the “green” (the putting surface at the end of each hole), then the fore-caddie will go ahead to the next landing area and mark his/her golfer’s ball until the ball reaches the green. Once the golfer is on the green, the fore-caddie maintains regular caddie duties like raking sand traps and taking the pin out of the cup. After the golfer is finished putting on the green, the fore-caddie returns to his/her duties and heads out to the next hole’s landing spot. This routine continues for the remainder of the course. The main purpose of this type of caddieing is to let the golfers ride in carts if they are unable to walk the course with a caddie.
Cart-caddieing, a type of fore-caddying, consists of a caddie driving a cart for the entire round of golf. The main job of the caddie is to drive ahead of the walking golfer and mark their ball before they get there. Getting to the ball first, the caddie can determine what type of shot the golfer should play.

Here are some interesting things about golf (like the most expensive golf clubs, or a diamond golf club)

Currently, the most expensive set of golf clubs in production are the Five Stars made by HONMA, a Japanese club manufacturer. The company constructs its custom clubs out of platinum and gold. A full, custom 14-piece set of these expensive clubs costs $32,000.

The most expensive golf course is SHADOW CREEK GOLF COURSE, LAS VEGAS ($500)
This spectacular desert oasis designed by Tom Fazio is reserved mainly for the high rollers staying at the city’s MGM Mirage properties. It has been ranked as high as No. 27 in Golf Digest’s ranking of America’s 100 Greatest Golf courses

The most expensive golf ball in the world is a ball I would put it in a shadow box and never lose. It is the Dixon Fire eco-golfball a pack of 12 balls cost $74.95 which is around $6 a ball.

Poem.

I wish I could fly
Like a bird
And I dream of a better world
I am a dreamer
I used to belive
But now I let go, and forget
I seem to give up
But I’m really just patient

Holocaust Remembrence

I have learned what it was like for the many people in the Holocaust. How they had to stay hidden for a very long time they had to entertain themselves, and that over 6 million Jews were killed. I wonder how they got there food did any die because of starvation, many questions to be answered. There was a boy who survived for 4 years, and from what i had seen in the post i read that was the longest any one had survived and died. This is just a small post to remember the ones who died because of something that started over nothing.

Spring Break

Hello! For my spring break I’m most likely going to be at home. Just about every spring vacation I stay at home and beg for my mom to take us somewhere fun witch sometimes works. Most of the time when we leave on vacation we go to six flags, but their is no way to tell until it comes. Other than thinking of going to six flags (witch we have gone to many many times before) if we don’t go to six flags we will be at home. While we are at home I ride my ATV, go out side, and play games with my friends because not many others have an ATV. If I go to six flags or stay home I’m bound to have a blast even though it only lasts one week.

My Old dog and I

I look at my dog
He looks at me
I wonder what will happen in
Two months or three

Maybe he will die or just get old
I can answer that for you
He still lies by my toes.

He wags his tail and licks his fir
Chases the cat ending in a failed attempt

His name is Rowdy and he is still by my side

Do You Hear That Thunder

My favorite sense is hearing why? Because, if you are deaf you cant hear and I like to listen to the storms on my Ipod. If my herring would be taken away I wouldn’t be able to hear the roaring thunder,or hear somebody talking to me I wouldn’t be able to hear my friends all I would hear would probably be either nothing or my inner thoughts and because I probably couldn’t go to school because if you can’t hear you would have to learn sine language and so would every body else.

Blacks and Whites Come Together

You should treat everybody with respect black, and whites aren’t vary different this shouldn’t have happened, but because of some people one of them were named Rose Parks. It all changed, but if it hadn’t why couldent it have been the black’s that could go right into a restrant, and the whites that had to waight. Everybody should learn not to be selfish,or to be rude to someone just because of there race,or the way they look. Everybody is the same in some way
